Christmas Cops Give Back

Bloomington Minnesota Police Santa Cop: Toys For Kids

Christmas, for many of us, holds memories and traditions from our childhood. From home cooked meals, to listening for Santa and his reindeer on the roof to unwrapping the gifts under the tree. In a perfect world, every family can experience the joys of Christmas. Unfortunately, not all families and friends can provide that for their children. And the Bloomington, Minnesota Police Department wanted to do something to help. Thus, the Police Santa Cop: Toys For Kids program was created.

In 2020, the Bloomington Police Department started the Police Santa Cop Program. This program provides local communities the capability to provide presents for their children if they are unable to do so this Christmas. The mission and purpose of the Santa Cop Program is “to provide assistance during the holiday season to disadvantaged children and families in the Bloomington community.” The department collects unwrapped donations from community members in the form of toys, gifts, and donated funds. Working together we can be certain this holiday season will bring cheer and happiness to kids in need."

This program helps families provide Christmas gifts to their loves ones, but also serves a sense of togetherness for the department that they have the opportunity to give back to those they protect. “The success of the Santa Cop Program is only possible due to the generous support of the community! What you donate stays in our community. Your donations and support helps create a memorable holiday season for children and families in the Bloomington community.”

Leland North Carolina Police Department: Christmas With a Cop

Another example of law enforcement giving back to the community is shown from the Leland Police Department in North Carolina. Thanks to the Leland Police Department, some families will have a few more gifts than expected under their tree. With support from outside resources, the Leland Police Department was able to provide gifts to families who could not afford to provide them this year. The goal of this act was to show that the Leland Police Department wants to provide support and love for their community and to show that it is possible for communities to come together as one to give back to those less fortunate. The Leland Police Department says, "The Brunswick Family Assistance and Friends of Leland Public Safety helped to make the event possible." They say it was great to see the children and their families face when they dropped off the gifts, and they enjoyed helping to make their holidays a little bit brighter.”

Our team wants to wish everyone a very special and safe Christmas this season. We especially want to thank all law enforcement men and women who risk their lives everyday to keep our communities safe. We have the utmost respect and pride in knowing you protect us and our loved ones.
