Bristol Attack Describes Heroism Of The Wounded & Fallen

Sometimes the most inspiring stories don’t always have a positive outcome. Law enforcement officers literally risk their lives everyday by going out into the field and we need to honor and respect that at all costs. Unfortunately, this story ends with 2 deaths of officers and 1 officer critically injured.

The Bristol Police Department in Bristol, Conneticut released information about a distressing incident involving officers and a domestic altercation. Bristol Police were dispatched to a report of a domestic altercation involving a weapon. Officials stated the incident may have been a trap, a “deliberate act to lure” officers to the home. Sergeant Demonte, Officer Hamzy and Officer Lurato spoke to the suspect, asking him to leave the house, before gunfire erupted from behind the officers. Despite his wounds, Officer Iurato was able to make his way back to a police department cruiser, but in serious pain with a gunshot wound to his leg. Sadly, both Sergeant Demonte and Officer Hamzy were killed and Officer Lurato was left in critical condition.

Sergeant Dustin Demonte, who was 35 years old and served for 10 and a half years, leaves behind his pregnant wife and 2 children.

Officer Alex Hamzy, who was 34 years old and served for 8 years, leaves behind his wife along with his parents and sibling.

Officer Alec Lurato, who is 26 years old and had surgery for a gunshot wound, is recovering currently.

Last Friday, about three miles from the site of the attack, a stream of people carried bouquets of flowers to the Bristol Police Department, adding them to a display that included a police cruiser, photos of the fallen officers and a handmade sign with their names and badge numbers. Later in the evening, several hundred people gathered for a candlelight vigil to honor the fallen police officers.

Our deepest condolences go out to the families of those officers they have lost in this terrible tragedy. We lend our hand of support to the family and friends of Sergeant Demonte, Officer Hamzy, and Officer Lurato during this difficult time.
